EMPIRICAL: “Empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis in severe pneumonia in HIV-infected infants: a randomized controlled clinical trial”

The overarching goal of EMPIRICAL is to develop an empirical treatment against cytomegalovirus and tuberculosis in severe pneumonia in HIV-infected infants through a clinical trial that will be conducted across seven different sites. The six African countries involved are Cote d’Ivoire, Malawi, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. It also aims to improve capacity building in order to give developing countries the possibility to carry out clinical trials according to good standards.

EMPIRICAL is coordinated by Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Universitario 12 de October (Spain). Penta is a partner in this project, managing Ethics and Regulatory issues (Work Package 5) and communications dissemination (Work Package 6).
