The first edition of the Global Health Festival (‘Festival della Salute Globale’) is to take place in Padova, Italy on 5th-7thApril 2019. In partnership with Comune di Padova, Università degli Studi di Padova and Medici con l’Africa CUAMM, the event will take an unconventional look at the fundamental issues concerning global health today. Through an interactive programme, the public is invited to consider the broader social, environmental, economic and cultural conditions when evaluating the health of an individual or community.

CROI 2019: Oral presentation by members of the EPIICAL team

The annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) was held on 4-7 March 2019, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. At this year’s event, EPIICAL team member Sara Dominguez Rodriguez delivered an engaging oral presentation on the earliest antiretroviral therapy initiation in infants.

ODYSSEY poster presentation at CROI 2019

 

The ODYSSEY project team members Pauline Bollen and Anna Turkova successfully presented a poster with the results of an important pharmacokinetic sub-study on the use of adult Dolutegravir 50mg tablets in children living with HIV and weighing 20-25kg. The poster session took place at the recent Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Seattle.

CROI: Members of the EPIICAL team to attend in Seattle

Seattle is gearing up for the 2019 edition of CROI next week. Held at Washington State Convention Center on 4th-7th March, the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections is an important event in the Penta calendar, and in particular for the EPIICAL consortium, as it is an opportunity for members to discuss the latest developments pertaining to the project. Included on the agenda, EPIICAL project researchers will make an oral presentation illustrating recent results that provide further evidence that supports the earliest ART initiation in infants.

EMPIRICAL: Kick-off Meeting in Lusaka, Zambia

Last week saw the EMPIRICAL project get off to a great start with the Kick-off Meeting held in Lusaka, Zambia on 19th-20th February. Various items were discussed on the agenda over a productive 2 days, including Penta’s role as project partner lead for Regulatory & Ethics issues, and Communications dissemination. The meeting also included a site visit to the University Teaching Hospital – Children’s Hospital.

REACH Kick-off Meeting, St. Petersburg, 11th-12th February

 

Today St. Petersburg welcomes over 40 partners for the REACH Kick-off Meeting (11th-12th February). REACH is a H2020 project, approved and funded by the European Commission, and coordinated by Penta. It will focus on the global health response to the epidemics of HIV, HCV and TB in pregnant women, children and adolescents in Russia and the broader European region.

The countdown has begun to Rare Disease Day 2019 on 28th February. People around the world are joining the global movement for rare diseases by taking part in the #ShowYourRare campaign, holding events and raising awareness. This year’s theme is ‘Bridging health and social care’, and it is an opportunity to be part of a global call on policy makers, healthcare professionals, and care services to better coordinate all aspects of care for rare disease patients and families.
